My experience of writing my research paper

This is my first time to write a real research paper in my life. It is interesting that my first paper was not written in my first language, but using English. Like the book project few weeks before, we also have to read a lot of materials as well. If the book project was a challenging for me, this time the paper is a more challenging work for all of us. Because we are not native speakers, reading academic papers, journals and other professional materials sometimes will confuse us. For me, when I read what I found in the library or from the internet, sometimes, some professional words and expressions made me have no sense. Although I will study finance in Concordia, and I have some knowledge about it, I still cannot know some explanations when I read the book A Cost-Benefits Analysis. I really worried about my paper at the beginning. In the end, however, I finally found that these professional papers were not as hard as I thought before. I learned how to explain a thing well from some papers and how to paraphrasing articles as well. I also got great help from Marley and Scott and I learned how to write a real reference list in English by reading Lipson’s book.

Actually, I didn’t satisfy my paper and my presentation after I did them. I didn’t do my best because my body’s problem. I believed that I can do better next time if I fell better than those passing weeks. In the passing few weeks, I think I improved my speaking skill because when I did my presentation, I wasn’t so nervous as I did before. But the practicing time is too short, therefore, I forgot some important parts and some linking words when I presented. I hope next time, I can do a better job than this time.

I"m sorry I didn't get a chance to see your actual presentation but Scott told me it went well. You chose a complicated financial situation to try and explain and of course, it was just a learning experience. So happy Olympics. The opening ceremony was worth every penny!
